Caring for Your Dental Implants
Serving patients in Omaha and Lincoln in our Omaha, Nebraska office
When properly cared for, your dental implants can last a lifetime. Nebraska implant dentist Dr. Dan Beninato recommends that you care for your dental implants just the way you would care for your natural teeth – by brushing and flossing every day and coming to our office for your regularly scheduled dental checkups.
It is important to brush at least twice a day and floss at least once a day to maintain optimum levels of oral health. The same is true with your dental implants. You should brush your implants the same way you brush your regular teeth. Be very thorough and make sure to brush both the front and back of your teeth. Use a soft bristle toothbrush with a bent handle to make cleaning the back of your teeth easier. When flossing, make sure you get between all of your teeth, especially around the abutments attached to your dental implants. You may also want to use an oral irrigation appliance for more effective results.
While a good at-home oral hygiene regimen is important, it will not enable you to clean your dental implants as carefully as necessary. To accomplish this, you will also need to come for your regularly scheduled dental checkups with Dr. Beninato. At these visits, Dr. Beninato will thoroughly clean your implants and get rid of any plaque that has built up. He will also make sure the implants still fit properly and make any necessary repairs to your restoration. You should have your teeth cleaned at our Omaha dental office at least twice a year.
