Dental Implants

Serving patients in Omaha and Lincoln in our Omaha, Nebraska office

Dental implants permanently replace one or several teeth without the drawbacks of dentures or partials. Whether you have lost a tooth, or believe that you may need full dentures, Dr. Beninato, serving Omaha and surrounding areas, will evaluate the condition of your teeth and underlying bone structure to determine if you are a good candidate for dental implants.

A dental implant consists of a titanium rod and an artificial tooth. The very small titanium rod is inserted into your jawbone, replacing the root of your original tooth. It actually fuses with your jawbone, making it permanent and stable.

An artificial tooth is then attached to the rod. This artificial tooth is porcelain and crafted to perfectly match the color and shape of your natural tooth. Porcelain reflects light in the same way your natural teeth do, so your artificial tooth will not look "fake." It will look natural and alive and blend perfectly with the rest of your teeth.

Dental implants act and feel just like your natural teeth, allowing you to chew and speak normally.

Advantages of dental implants

Dental implants avoid many of the drawbacks of dentures and partials including:

  • Bone shrinkage
  • Gum irritation
  • Gum shrinkage
  • Inconvenient cleaning
  • Need for replacement every four to five years

Dental implants are cleaned and cared for just like your natural teeth. They are not removable, and cannot slip or irritate your gums. You will not have to adjust to chewing and speaking with them. Should the artificial tooth somehow become broken or damage, the tooth is replaced. The titanium rod remains fused to your jawbone.

Dental implants help preserve your youthful appearance because the titanium rod replaces the root of your tooth. With your dental implant, you will not experience bone or gum shrinkage. Your jaw line will not be compromised and you will not need to be fitted for replacements every few years as you would with dentures.

Candidates for dental implants

Unfortunately, dental implants are not appropriate for everyone who needs tooth replacement. You must have good overall dental health and adequate jawbone material to support the implant.
