Endodontics
in Omaha, Nebraska & surrounding areas
You probably know endodontic treatment as a root canal. Endodontics treats the pulp of the tooth, and can save your natural tooth when problems arise. Most people are afraid of root canals, but Dr. Beninato makes the experience as painless and anxiety-free as possible.
Whenever possible, the best treatment option is to keep your natural tooth tissue. When dental pulp becomes diseased and inflamed, it is very painful. The alternative to endodontic treatment is to pull your tooth.
Dental pulp is soft tissue deep within your tooth. It contains:
- Nerves
- Arteries
- Veins
- Lymph tissue
This pulp is crucial to the development of your tooth, but once a tooth is mature it no longer requires the pulp to live. If the rest of your tooth is healthy, diseased pulp can be removed, leaving the surrounding tooth in tact.
The nerves in the pulp make disease and infection very painful. If a diseased pulp is left untreated it can lead to an abscess and/or tooth and bone loss. A root canal prevents further damage and relieves the pain.
Endodontic treatment removes the diseased pulp, cleans out the canal and fills the empty space left behind. Then we place a porcelain crown over the tooth to seal and protect it. In the past a root canal involved more than one appointment and the use of a temporary crown. CEREC technology allows us to do all of this in one office visit, eliminating the need for temporary crowns.
Porcelain crowns look, feel, and act just like your natural tooth. You will be relieved of the pain and able to chew normally again.
