Water, Water, Water

Water is everything. Water is the basis of a healthy body. Water helps our mouth to stay hydrated, and it also washes away the debris and sugar from the mouth. Water that contains fluoride helps the teeth become more resistant to attacks from an acid attack—an acid attack could be responsible for the development of cavities.

Dairy and Tea

If you do have to regularly drink fluids other than water, then choose fluids without sugar. Milk, tea, and coffee (coffee doesn’t mean a hot drink filled with caramel at your local coffee house). Milk, tea, and coffee, in addition to being relatively mild for teeth—coffee and some types of tea could be responsible for staining the teeth—also benefit the rest of the body.

Phosphorus?

Phosphorus-rich foods can strengthen the teeth. These are lean meats such as chicken and fish; milk and eggs also contain high levels of phosphorus. The only problem with these types of foods is that they are oftentimes higher in calories, fats, sodium, etc., and they should be consumed in moderation.

Fruit and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are an important component to health. All fruits and veggies have vitamins and minerals that are essential to health. And in addition to being chock-full of nutrients, fruits and vegetables are packed with water and fiber, which can help to clean the surfaces of the teeth and balance out the sugar content.

There are a number of foods that benefit mouth health, and, in addition to a quality diet, remember also the importance of quality oral care.
